Poetry
So students, today I will teach you about the most celebrated poem of 'Robert Frost'. And the name of the poem is 'The Road Not Taken'. First I will give you a brief summary of the poem. So let's start. Once the poet was walking down the road and there were the diversions. There were two different paths and he had to choose one out of them. He took time to chose the right path. He inspected them to decide which was the better one. And then chose one out of the two. He kept the other path for some other day, although he knew that he would never get a chance to walk over the left path again. As he walked on the chosen path, he realized that both the paths were similar.
This was the summary of the poem. Now what message does the poet wants to convey. The message the poet wants to convey is that, the choices that we make in our life significantly impact our future. If we make the wrong choice, then we will have no other option, rather than regretting it.
POETIC/LITERARY DEVICES used in the poem are-
•Rhyme scheme- the whole poem follows ABAAB rhyme scheme.
•Symbolism- two roads that represents two or more choices in our life.
•Anaphora- 'And' word repeated at the beginning of line 2,3, and 4.
•Alliteration- It is the occurance of the same sound at the beginning of the closely connected words.
'Wanted wear' 'w' sound is repeating.
'First for' 'f' sound is repeating.
'Though that' 'th' sound is repeating.
•Parallelism- Is the use of the words, phrases or sentences that have similar grammatical form. Poet has used it in line 2,3, and 4.
•Assonance- Is the repetition of vowel sound, such as the sound of 'a' and 'o' in 'though far as the passing there' and in 'somewhere ages and ages hence'.
•Consonance- Is the repetition of consonant sound such as sound of 'd' in two roads diverged in a yellow wood' and 't' sound in 'though far as the passing there'.
•Personification- Poet has personified the road in the second stanza. "Because it was grassy and wanted wear".As the road is human and it wants to wear and tear.
•Simile- Poet has use the simile in second stanza. 'As just as fair' here the poet has linked the road less taken to the easy way through life.
