A▪︎ Poem
Fred is a very lazy frog
Who lolls all day upon a log.
He always manages to shirk
Doing a single stroke of work.
His poor old mother calls in vain
"Come in and help!" He does not bother
To move two inches, much preferring
To be extremely hard-of-hearing.
He lies there in a silent heap.
And stays conveniently asleep.

If a lady frog hops past
You'd think he would get up at last.
To bow, and help her on her way?
But no, I am ashamed to say
That when a lady frog comes by
He does not open up one eye!

B▪︎ Line Wise Explanation Of The Poem-
Fred is a very lazy frog
This poem is about a lazy frog, whose name is Fred.
Who lolls all day upon a log
Frog lie down simply on a piece of thick wood all day.
He always manages to shirk
He always comes up with excuses, as he always wants to avoid doing work.
Doing a single stroke of work
He didn't want to do a single piece of work.
His poor old mother calls in vain
Whenever his mother calls him was of no use or we can say that her calling Fred was useless.
"Come in and help!" He does not bother
She(mother) called Fred, come and help me, but he does not care at all.
To move two inches much preferring
He does not move even two inches, in other words he didn't want to choose something instead of something ( he prefer not to do any work).
To be extremely hard-of-hearing
He pretends when his mother call her as he is unable to hear her well. Like she is calling from a far distance.
He lies there in a silent heap
He lie down all day on an untidy pile(heap).
And stays conveniently asleep
He takes rest all day very comfortably without any tension.
If a lady frog hops past
Even if the lady frog jumps through him
You'd think he would get up al last.
What you think? He would get up as lady frog passes by
To bow, and help her on her way
Frog would bend his head down as a sign of respect and help the lady frog to find her way
But no, I am ashamed to say
But I am feeling ashamed to say that, this would not happen at all.
That when a lady frog comes by
That when that lady frog passes him(frog)
He does not open up one eye!
He kept lying and does not open up one eye even. He does not show respect feeling for that lady frog.
